Northern Burgos Birding Break - 3 Days
Two nights at Molino del Canto with guided birding across the Las Merindades plateaux, Ebro Reservoir and Upper Ebro canyons, including meals and small-group 4x4 outings.
About this tour
Spend two nights beside the Ebro in the Valle de Zamanzas, with a pair of birding days devoted to the varied landscapes of northern Burgos. Posada Molino del Canto provides the accommodation, while MCBirding leads the outings. This short break combines open uplands and reservoir birding with a separate exploration of the Upper Ebro canyon country.
The arrival evening includes a homemade dinner and an introduction to the route and birds using maps. The next day begins on the Las Merindades plateaux, where farmland and upland steppe offer opportunities to look for larks, buntings, shrikes and harriers. After a picnic, the route continues to the Ebro Reservoir to search for herons, ducks, cormorants, storks and waders.
The final day turns to the landscape surrounding the inn. Travel by 4x4 links limestone cliffs, rural villages and open plateaux. Watch the sky above the canyon edges for Griffon and Egyptian Vultures, Golden and Short-toed Snake Eagles, and Alpine Swifts. Finches and other smaller birds add variety at stops along the route. A picnic precedes the return to the inn.
The group is limited to two to six people. Accommodation is in a shared double or twin room, with breakfasts, evening meals and picnic lunches. The 2027 price is EUR 446 per adult, including VAT; single occupancy adds EUR 99. Wine, liqueurs and additional drinks are outside the package.
Guests normally travel to the inn independently. Airport or ferry-terminal transfers from Bilbao and Santander are possible for an additional charge. Weather can require a different route, and sightings of individual species cannot be promised.

Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival and route introduction
Reach the inn independently and settle in for dinner. Maps provide an introduction to the next day's route and the birds to look for.
Day 2
Open uplands and Ebro waterbirds
Begin among the Las Merindades plateaux and farmland, looking for larks, harriers, shrikes and buntings. Following a picnic, explore the reservoir for ducks, herons, cormorants, storks and waders.
Day 3
Upper Ebro canyon birding
Use a 4x4 to reach canyon viewpoints, rocky outcrops and village surroundings. Search for vultures, eagles and Alpine Swifts, with stops for smaller birds before a picnic and the return to the inn.
