Griffon Vulture

Gyps fulvus

The Griffon Vulture is a large Old World vulture with a wingspan of up to 2.8 meters. It has a white head, neck, and underparts, with a brown body and wings. This scavenger plays a crucial role in the ecosystem by feeding on carrion, helping to prevent the spread of disease. Griffon Vultures are social birds, often gathering in large groups at carcasses. They inhabit mountainous areas, cliffs, and open countryside, and are known for their impressive soaring abilities. Unfortunately, the species faces threats from habitat loss, poisoning, and collisions with power lines.
