Private Three-Day Xativa Mountains Steppe and Wetlands Birding Break
1/1

About this tour

Xativa provides a practical base for three very different birding landscapes. One day reaches the inland mountains and limestone country for vultures, accentors and other upland birds; another crosses open cereal plains where bustards, sandgrouse and larks are the principal attraction.

The final habitat change is to Alicante’s coastal wetlands. Lagoons, reedbeds and saltmarsh bring ducks, coots, grebes, waders and wintering or passage birds into a route that has already moved from crags to steppe-like farmland.

This is a private version of a route Valencia Birding has operated from Xativa. The order can change to make better use of weather, access and recent sightings. Accommodation, meals, transfers, walking expectations and the current price are settled for the chosen dates.

Itinerary

Day 1
Inland Alicante mountains and limestone country
Valencian mountains
Travel from the Xativa base toward upland Alicante, combining a mountain walk or gorge visit with scanning points for Griffon Vulture. Alpine Accentor, Black Wheatear, ravens, tits, warblers and other raptors are possible according to season.
Day 2
Cereal plains for bustards, sandgrouse and larks
Cereal plains near Valencia
Cross open agricultural country and higher plains, stopping along suitable tracks and viewpoints for Great Bustard, Black-bellied Sandgrouse, Calandra and other larks, shrikes, Rock Sparrow and Little Owl.

The booking is secured in writing and usually with a deposit, after the full three-day price has been agreed. The outstanding amount is payable in cash on the first tour morning under the operator’s current terms.

Insurance & Safety

Travel insurance with medical and trip interruption cover is recommended.
Routes, hides, reserve access, weather and bird activity can change. Follow the guide and all local site rules.
Why use Xativa as the base?

Xativa sits between the contrasting inland and coastal birding areas used by this circuit and also offers a historic town setting between field days.

What walking should guests expect?

The published difficulty is moderate. Mountain sections can involve uneven paths, while plain and wetland stops vary; any mobility limits should be discussed before the route is fixed.

Must the wetlands be visited on day three?

Not necessarily. The guide may change the sequence when weather, site access or recent observations make another order more productive.

Does the page include a hotel?

No specific lodging is attached to this tour. The Xativa accommodation plan and whether it is self-booked or part of a quotation are agreed before reservation.

How should the target list be read?

It brings together examples from the three habitat days, not a promise of sightings. Season and field conditions determine which birds are present and detectable.
