Pandion haliaetus

The Osprey, also known as the sea hawk, is a large raptor with a wingspan of 1.5 to 1.8 meters. It is easily recognized by its distinctive dark brown upperparts and white underparts. Ospreys are well adapted for hunting fish, with reversible outer toes, barbed pads on the soles of their feet, and a distinctive kink in their long, narrow wings. They are found near water bodies such as lakes, rivers, and coastal areas, where they build large stick nests in tall trees or on man-made structures. Ospreys are skilled hunters, hovering over the water before plunging feet-first to catch fish. They are widespread and can be found on every continent except Antarctica.
