About this tour

Leave central Lisbon by rigid-inflatable passenger boat and follow the Tagus towards the estuary and its protected wetland habitats. The route passes beneath the 25 de Abril Bridge before moving into quieter areas where waterbirds feed, rest and gather according to season and tide.

A marine biologist and ornithologist accompany the trip, explain the estuary ecosystem and help guests identify birds from the boat. Eurasian Spoonbills, Greater Flamingos, Osprey, herons, egrets, ducks, waders, gulls and terns are among the birds reported on this route, although wildlife sightings always vary. Binoculars are provided, and the trip suits both first-time birdwatchers and experienced observers.

Meet the SeaEO crew at Gate 3 in Doca de Santo Amaro for check-in and a safety briefing. Depart beneath the 25 de Abril Bridge and continue towards the Tagus Estuary birding areas. Spend the main part of the trip observing and identifying waterbirds with the onboard specialists before returning to the original Lisbon departure point. The exact route is adapted to weather, tides, bird activity and safe navigation.

Shared-tour bookings cancelled at least 24 hours before the activity are refundable. No-shows and cancellations within 24 hours of a shared tour may be charged in full. Weather cancellations are rescheduled or refunded according to the confirmed booking terms.

The current public starting price is EUR 40 per person. BirdWatch will request confirmation of the final price and any private-tour option for the selected date before booking.

Insurance & Safety

Passenger accident and liability insurance are listed as included. Travellers should also carry suitable personal travel and medical insurance.
Wear comfortable closed shoes and suitable layers, and bring water, sunglasses and sun protection. Follow all crew and life-jacket instructions. Travellers prone to seasickness should prepare before departure.
Is the tour suitable for first-time birdwatchers?

Yes. The onboard specialists help guests find and identify birds, and binoculars are provided. Experienced birders are also welcome.

Can the route change?

Yes. Weather, tides, bird activity and safe navigation can affect the precise route and duration.

Are there participation restrictions?

The operator advises that the speedboat activity is not suitable for pregnant travellers, wheelchair users, children under five, or people with serious back problems. Mention any mobility or medical concern in the inquiry before confirming.
