Private Half-Day or Full-Day Birdwatching Around Brisbane
A completely flexible private Brisbane birding day with Kris McBride, customized around the birds you want to see, your pace and the habitats that suit your priorities.
About this tour
Every private tour is completely flexible and customized around the guest’s target birds, interests, pace and available time. Choose a half-day from sunrise to midday or a full day from sunrise to late afternoon. Kris can combine several habitats around Brisbane or concentrate the day on a smaller set of must-see species.
Rainforest birding may take the group northwest to Mount Glorious and D’Aguilar National Park, where walking tracks pass through habitat used by Noisy Pitta, Regent and Satin Bowerbirds, Paradise Riflebird, Eastern Whipbird and fruit doves. Closer to the city, Sandy Camp Road Wetlands brings together shallow freshwater, reed-fringed margins and adjoining woodland, while Oxley Creek Common adds open grassland and creekside habitat.
Coastal routes can include the flat Wynnum Mangrove Boardwalk for mangrove specialists and seasonal shorebirds. Tinchi Tamba Wetlands offers a broader mix of tidal flats, saltmarsh, mangroves, melaleuca wetland, grassland and open forest. The final combination depends on current conditions, the time available and the birds you most want to seek.
Groups travel in a Ford Everest 4WD, with pickup and return at Brisbane accommodation. National park entry, use of a spotting scope and binoculars, field guides, cold drinks and snacks are included. Breakfast, lunch and hot drinks are not included. Pickup outside Brisbane can be arranged for an additional charge.
Kris has guided birders at sites in Australia and overseas, worked in logistics for an international birding company and now combines guiding with wildlife-management work in Southeast Queensland, including bird surveys. All birds are wild, so sightings cannot be guaranteed.
