Explore The Gambia from the coastal birding circuit to Tendaba, the north-bank wetlands, Kaur, Njaur, Wassu, Georgetown and Bansang. This extensive route combines rice fields, sewage ponds, forests, photo hides, wetlands, dry woodland, savannah, river channels and national parks.

The itinerary is designed for birdwatchers and photographers seeking broad coverage of the country. It includes three boat trips and repeated opportunities for kingfishers, bee-eaters, raptors, bustards, hornbills, cranes, waterbirds, woodland specialists and Sahel species. The exact sequence remains subject to local access and current bird activity.

Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival in coastal Gambia

Meet at Banjul International Airport and transfer to the coastal hotel, with local birding if arrival time allows.

Day 2
Kotu birding circuit

Explore rice fields, sewage ponds, the cycle track, golf-course area and nearby wetland habitats for kingfishers, finfoot, jacana, woodpeckers, sunbirds and other coastal birds.

Day 3
Kartong and Gunjur

Bird Kartong wetland and woodland in the morning, then continue to Gunjur Forest after lunch for wetland, forest and coastal species.

Day 4
Travel inland to Tendaba

Leave the coast with birding stops in forest, woodland and rice-field habitats before an overnight at Tendaba.

Day 5
North-bank route to Morgan Kunda

Cross the Senegambia Bridge and follow the north-bank route, visiting wetlands, woodlands, waterholes and rice fields.

Day 6
Kaur, Njaur, Wassu and Georgetown

Continue east with birding stops at Farafenni, Kaur Wetland, Njaur waterhole, Wassu Quarry and Panchang Swamp before Georgetown or Bansang.

Day 7
River boat and Bansang birding

Take a three-hour morning boat trip, then visit the Bird Safari area or Bansang rice fields for river, wetland and dry-country birds.

Day 8
South-bank return to Tendaba

Return west along the south bank with productive birding stops at pools, rice fields and quarry habitat.

Day 9
Tendaba Creek and Kiang West
Tendaba and Kiang West

Take a morning creek boat trip and a nearby birding walk, then spend the afternoon in Kiang West National Park.

Day 10
Return to the coast

Travel back toward the coast with birding stops at Pirang Shrimp Farm and Bonto Forest.

Day 11
Brufut and Tanji

Bird Brufut woodland in the morning and the reserve, beach and coastal habitats at Tanji in the afternoon.

Day 12
Departure

Transfer to the airport, with a final local birding stop when the flight schedule permits.
