Melanocorypha calandra (Linnaeus, 1766)

Calandra Lark Melanocorypha calandra is a passerine of the lark family that breeds in the south-west of the Palearctic and in north Africa. It is a bird of open country, especially steppe and cultivated land, and it is mainly resident in the western part of its range. In flight it can be told by its short broad wings and short tail with pale edges, features that separate it from more easterly relatives. The species was first described by Linnaeus in 1766.
