Alpine Swift
Tachymarptis melba
The Alpine Swift (Tachymarptis melba) is a large, highly aerial bird found in mountainous regions of Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. With a streamlined body and long, curved wings, it is a master of the air, spending most of its life on the wing. Its distinctive silhouette and piercing calls make it a striking sight in the sky. Alpine Swifts are known for their remarkable aerial abilities, often soaring at great heights and performing acrobatic flight displays. They nest in colonies on cliffs and rock faces, and their diet consists mainly of flying insects. Although not currently considered threatened, they may face future challenges due to habitat loss and environmental changes.
