About this tour

Discover Sri Lanka -One of Asia’s Top birding destinations .

Sri Lanka, a tropical paradise located 900 miles (1,450 km) southwest of India , is a dream destination for birdwatchers. With its lush rainforests, wetlands, and coastal habitats, this island nation is home to some of the richest avian biodiversity in Asia. Recognized as an Endemic Bird Area (EBA) by BirdLife International, Sri Lanka is a must-visit for birding enthusiasts looking to spot rare and endemic species.

Sri Lanka’s diverse landscapes support an astonishing 430 bird species , including 33 endemics . Some of the most sought-after birds on our tour include: Sri Lanka Blue Magpie – A strikingly colorful endemic of the wet zone forests; Serendib Scops Owl – One of the world’s rarest owls, discovered only in 2001; Sri Lanka Spurfowl – A secretive forest-dwelling species – often heard but rarely seen; Black-necked Stork – A magnificent wetland bird found in Sri Lanka’s lagoons and marshes.

Target birds highlighted by the source include Sri Lanka Frogmouth, Sri Lanka Spurfowl, Sri Lanka Wood Pigeon, Serendib Scops Owl, Sri Lanka Hanging Parrot, Red-faced Malkoha, Green-billed Coucal, Orange-billed Babbler, Sri Lanka Whistling Thrush and Sri Lanka Blue Magpie.
