8-Day Queen Elizabeth and Bwindi Birding Safari
An eight-day Uganda route pairing Queen Elizabeth’s savanna and Kazinga Channel with the Albertine Rift forests of Bwindi.
About this tour
This eight-day itinerary combines open-country and montane forest birding in southwestern Uganda. It begins in Queen Elizabeth National Park, using the Kasenyi tracks for savanna species and the Kazinga Channel boat route for waterbirds and riverside wildlife.
The journey then passes through the Ishasha sector on the way to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Birding in Bwindi covers the Waterfall Trail in Buhoma, the forest corridor at the Bwindi Neck, the higher Ruhija sector and Umubwindi Swamp. Together these areas provide access to several elevations and a wide range of Albertine Rift habitats.
A gorilla-tracking day is part of the published programme. It requires current permit arrangements and should not be read as a guaranteed inclusion until the final proposal is confirmed. The last day returns to Kampala or Entebbe Airport.
Current accommodation, road transfers, boat operation, permits, price and other inclusions are confirmed after inquiry. Target birds and other wildlife remain possible rather than guaranteed.

Day 1
Transfer to Queen Elizabeth
Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park and begin with afternoon birding in the savanna.
Day 2
Kasenyi and Kazinga Channel
Explore the Kasenyi tracks for open-country birds during the morning. In the afternoon, use the Kazinga Channel boat route for waterbirds and riverside species.
Day 3
Ishasha to Bwindi
Bird through the Ishasha sector while travelling from Queen Elizabeth National Park to Bwindi Impenetrable Forest.
Day 4
Buhoma Waterfall Trail
Walk the Waterfall Trail in Bwindi’s Buhoma sector, focusing on montane forest birds.
Day 5
Bwindi Neck to Ruhija
Transfer from Buhoma toward Ruhija, stopping to bird the Bwindi Neck along the way.
Day 6
Gorilla tracking
The published sequence sets this day aside for gorilla tracking. Permit availability and exact timing must be confirmed for the booked departure.
Day 7
Umubwindi Swamp
Bird the Umubwindi Swamp area for Albertine Rift endemics. Access and field effort depend on trail conditions.
Day 8
Return to Kampala or Entebbe
Leave Bwindi and transfer to Kampala or Entebbe Airport.
