Aechmophorus clarkii
Clark's Grebe is a large waterbird found in western North America. It is known for its striking black-and-white plumage, long neck, and dagger-like bill. During the breeding season, it performs elaborate courtship displays on freshwater lakes. This species is an exceptional swimmer and diver, using its webbed feet to propel itself underwater in search of fish and aquatic invertebrates. Clark's Grebes are highly social birds, often nesting in colonies. However, their populations are threatened by habitat loss, pollution, and disturbance at breeding sites.
