Common Shelduck

Tadorna tadorna (Linnaeus, 1758)

Common Shelduck, Tadorna tadorna, is a duck in the Anatidae family and the order Anseriformes. It breeds across the Palearctic, from western Europe to north-eastern China. The species is widespread and common, with breeding linked to temperate coasts, saline pools and estuaries in Europe and northwest Africa, and to inland salt lakes in Asia. It also uses open freshwater habitats inland more often now. In winter it moves to temperate and subtropical regions. It is a familiar bird around the coasts of Great Britain and Ireland.
