Common Yellowthroat

Geothlypis trichas

The Common Yellowthroat is a small, insect-eating bird found in marshy and brushy areas across North America. This warbler is known for its distinctive black mask and bright yellow throat, with the male having additional black streaks on its face. Common Yellowthroats are often heard before they are seen, as they have a loud, distinctive 'wich-i-ty, wich-i-ty, wich-i-ty' call. They forage for insects and spiders in dense vegetation, and their cup-shaped nests are often hidden in low shrubs or grasses. These birds are migratory, spending winters in Central America and the Caribbean.
