About this tour
Explore the naturalised habitats of Donna Birkmaier Park near Saskatoon’s eastern edge. Grassland, ponds, shrubs and woodland support a varied mix of prairie songbirds, ducks, grebes, shorebirds and other waterbirds.
Spring and summer possibilities include Spotted Sandpiper, terns, Downy Woodpecker, Eastern Kingbird, Warbling Vireo, wrens, catbirds, thrashers, sparrows, Yellow-headed Blackbird, Western Meadowlark and several warblers. The guide provides a spotting scope and helps participants identify field marks; binoculars may be available on request.
The private walk lasts two hours on wide, level trails of about one kilometre. The site can suit wheelchair users and other low-mobility participants, although current trail and weather conditions should be confirmed. No bird sighting is guaranteed.
