Phegornis mitchellii (Fraser, 1845)

Diademed Sandpiper-Plover, Phegornis mitchellii, is a plover of the Andes in South America, breeding from montane north-central Peru and Bolivia to north-central Chile and north-central Argentina. It is the sole species in its genus and has no subspecies. The bird was first described by Fraser in 1845. It belongs to Charadriiformes and the family Charadriidae. Its range is tied to high Andean peatlands and bogs, where it occurs among grassy banks, streams and seasonal pools, usually between the frost line and the snow line.
