Oreotrochilus chimborazo (Delattre & Bourcier, 1846)

Ecuadorian Hillstar, Oreotrochilus chimborazo, is a hummingbird of the Andes in southern Colombia and Ecuador. It is tied to high mountain grassland, where it occurs from 3500 to 5200 metres. The bird is notable for its black bill, which is slightly curved downwards. Males show a glittering violet-purple hood with a black band across the chest, while females are plainer, with a whitish throat marked by brown spots. It belongs to the family Trochilidae and was described by Delattre and Bourcier in 1846.
