Golden-winged Manakin

Masius chrysopterus (Lafresnaye, 1843)

Golden-winged Manakin, Masius chrysopterus, is a passerine of the Pipridae family that breeds in north-west Venezuela and from Colombia through Ecuador to northern Peru. It was first described by Lafresnaye in 1843. The species is the only member of its genus and is split into five named subspecies. It lives in wet montane cloudforest, and also uses clearings and forest edges. Its range is disjunct across the Andes. In Venezuela it occurs on both sides of the mountains, and in Colombia, Ecuador and Peru it is found on different slopes and departments.
