Great Crested Flycatcher

Myiarchus crinitus

The Great Crested Flycatcher is a medium-sized songbird found in the woodlands of eastern North America. It is known for its vibrant lemon-yellow belly and bold rusty-orange tail, which it often flashes in flight. This species is known for its distinctive call, a loud 'wheep' or 'wheer' sound. Great Crested Flycatchers primarily feed on insects, which they catch by sallying out from a high perch. They nest in tree cavities and are known for incorporating snake skins into their nests. These birds are often found in mature forests with open canopies and are known for their preference for nesting in natural or abandoned cavities.
