Krüper's Nuthatch

Krüper's Nuthatch, Sitta krueperi, is a nuthatch of coniferous forests in Lesbos, western and northern and southern Turkey, far south-west Russia and western Georgia. It is closely tied to pine woodland, especially where Turkish pine grows. Adults show a black front to the crown, a blue-grey upper body, a dark eye-stripe and a clear white eyebrow. The underparts differ between the sexes, and both have a large rufous patch across the breast. It was described by Pelzeln in 1863.
