Experience Lesvos at the height of spring migration on an eight-day birding tour based in Skala Kalloni, with seven nights, all meals and field transport included.
About this tour
Spend eight days exploring Lesvos during one of the eastern Mediterranean’s busiest migration periods. Western Isles Wildlife bases the group in Skala Kalloni, close to lagoons and saltpans while still providing practical access to dry uplands, wooded hillsides, agricultural areas and coastal wetlands.
The island’s position near the Turkish coast brings together regional specialties and a broad passage of herons, waders, raptors, terns, shrikes, warblers and flycatchers. The tour searches for birds such as Krüper’s Nuthatch, Western Rock Nuthatch and Cinereous Bunting while also working migration sites for Red-footed Falcon, Little Crake, Collared Pratincole, Masked Shrike and wetland species. An overall total of about 150–160 species is possible based on the operator’s experience, but the final list varies with weather and migration.
Lesvos also supports a rich spring flora and butterfly community. These are enjoyed when encountered, while birds remain the principal focus. The pace is relaxed, allowing time for observation and photography, and daily site choice can change as fresh field information becomes available.
The 2027 tour runs from 25 April to 2 May and is currently listed as full. The price is GBP 1,450 per person for two sharing or GBP 1,650 for single occupancy, excluding flights. Seven nights at a hotel in Skala Kalloni, all meals and transport throughout the tour are included. The group is limited to seven guests and meets at Mytilene airport on the arrival afternoon.
