Calidris minutilla
The Least Sandpiper is a small shorebird with a brownish-gray back and white underparts. It has a short, straight, dark bill and yellowish legs. During the breeding season, it can be found in the Arctic tundra, where it nests on the ground in open areas near water. In the non-breeding season, it migrates to coastal areas, mudflats, and marshes in North and South America. This species forages for small invertebrates by probing in the mud with its bill. It is known for its rapid, erratic movements as it forages along the water's edge. The Least Sandpiper is a widespread and abundant species, but it faces threats from habitat loss and degradation.
