Ortolan Bunting

Emberiza hortulana

The Ortolan Bunting is a small passerine bird found in Europe and western Asia. It is known for its distinctive yellow and brown plumage, with streaks on the back and a bright yellow throat. These birds prefer open habitats such as farmland, meadows, and grasslands, where they forage for seeds and insects. Ortolan Buntings are known for their remarkable migration, traveling long distances between their breeding and wintering grounds. Unfortunately, their populations have been declining due to habitat loss and intensive agriculture. Efforts are being made to conserve this species and its habitats.
