About this tour

The Sierra de Gredos offers a change from Madrid’s lowland birding: granite heights, glacial landforms and mountain lakes form the backdrop to this two-day trip in Ávila. Its peaks exceed 2,500 meters, and the birding program combines higher rocky slopes with lower forest habitats.

In the upper parts of the range, Blue Nature searches for birds associated with mountain terrain. The named possibilities include Common Rock Thrush, Blue Rock Thrush, Northern Wheatear, Water Pipit, Dunnock, Bluethroat, Rock Bunting and Ortolan Bunting. Bearded Vulture, Cinereous Vulture and Golden Eagle are among the larger birds on the tour’s list; none is a guaranteed encounter.

Oak and pine woods lower down provide a different setting for walks and forest birding, with European Pied Flycatcher among the stated possibilities. White-throated Dipper is also included in the regional species list. The balance between high slopes and lower woodland is adjusted to weather, site access and bird activity.

The trip meets in Madrid and includes guiding, transport, accommodation and half board. At most eight people travel together. Prices are per person: €700 for a solo traveler, €400 each for two, €300 each for three, and €250 each for four to eight. Dates are on request. The two-day program can be discussed around the party’s interests, including the possibility of adding time or areas.
