Northern Wheatear

Oenanthe oenanthe

The Northern Wheatear is a small, migratory songbird known for its distinctive black and white plumage and a characteristic white eyestripe. During the breeding season, it can be found in open, rocky areas with sparse vegetation, often nesting in crevices or burrows. This species is known for its impressive long-distance migrations, traveling from its breeding grounds in the northern hemisphere to wintering areas in Africa and southern Asia. Northern Wheatears primarily feed on insects and have a distinctive bobbing motion when foraging. While their populations are generally stable, they may face threats from habitat loss and climate change.
