White-backed Mousebird

Colius colius

The White-backed Mousebird (Colius colius) is a small, gregarious bird found in southern Africa. It has a distinctive appearance with a long tail and a white patch on its back. These birds are often seen in small groups foraging for fruits, seeds, and insects in scrublands and woodlands. They are known for their acrobatic flight and loud, chattering calls. The White-backed Mousebird plays an important role in seed dispersal and is considered beneficial to the ecosystem. While not currently threatened, habitat loss and degradation could pose future risks to their populations.
