About this tour
This private five-hour tour is a compact introduction to the birdlife of Windhoek and its outskirts. It works well at the beginning of a self-drive journey, before a later departure, or for birders who want to focus on a small set of local targets without committing a full day.
Jacob Henry selects the most productive combination from sites such as IJG Trails, Parliament Gardens, Goreangab Dam, Avis Dam, Gammams Water Works and the Windhoek Botanical Gardens. The route responds to recent observations, water levels and the group’s priorities rather than trying to cover every location. Wetland margins may add ducks and waders, while thornveld and rocky slopes offer a different set of dry-country and escarpment birds.
The search may include White-backed Mousebird, Rockrunner and White-tailed Shrike around drier or rockier sites, with Maccoa Duck, South African Shelduck and Kittlitz’s Plover as wetland possibilities. Black-faced Waxbill, Burnt-necked Eremomela and Bradfield’s Swift broaden the range. The birds remain unpredictable, and the itinerary is a search plan rather than a promise.
The price covers collection and return in Windhoek, travel between the chosen sites, access charges and drinking water. Guests are responsible for their own food or café purchases and personal travel insurance. With a maximum of three guests, the pace can be adjusted for a beginner, an experienced lister, a photographer or a visitor concentrating on one or two elusive species.

Are target birds guaranteed?
No. Current information helps guide the search, but sightings of wild birds cannot be guaranteed.
What happens if Rockrunner & Co. cancels because of rain?
The operator states that a full refund is issued when the tour has to be cancelled because of rain.
