Antigone vipio (Pallas, 1811)

White-naped Crane, Antigone vipio, breeds across se Siberia, ne Mongolia and ne China, and spends the nonbreeding season in the Korean Pen., s Japan and c, e China along the Yangtze River. It is a crane of shallow wetlands and wet meadows, and it also uses lake margins, river valleys, mixed forest grasslands and lowlands. Its key feature is the white stripe running from the back of the crown down the neck, set against a grey body, with a reddish face patch and a white throat. Juveniles have a brown head and a pale throat.
