Coeligena phalerata (Bangs, 1898)

White-tailed Starfrontlet, Coeligena phalerata, is a hummingbird found in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in north-east Colombia, within its breeding range in South America. It lives in humid to wet montane forest from 1,400 to 3,700 m, with males using openings in the forest and females more often at the edge. It has a long, straight black bill, a white mark behind the eye, and a forked tail. Adult males show a white tail, turquoise crown and blue throat, while females have a bronzy tail and rufous cinnamon underparts.
