Private 6-Day Blue-bearded Helmetcrest Expedition
A demanding six-day guided trek and camping expedition into the high Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta for the critically endangered Blue-bearded Helmetcrest.
About this tour
Journey from Santa Marta through San Pedro and San Javier before trekking into remote high-elevation habitat near the Sierra Nevada lagoons. The expedition is built around a careful search for the Blue-bearded Helmetcrest and the specialised birds of páramo and upper montane forest.
This is a strenuous, logistics-supported camping route rather than a conventional road tour. Mules carry group equipment, while local and birding guides manage access, camp movement and field searching across the six-day itinerary.
