Wilson's Snipe

Anarhynchus wilsonia

The Wilson's Snipe is a medium-sized, long-billed shorebird found in wetlands and marshy areas across North and South America. It has a mottled brown and buff plumage that provides excellent camouflage in its preferred habitat. This species is known for its distinctive winnowing sound produced during courtship displays. Wilson's Snipes are primarily crepuscular and nocturnal, foraging for invertebrates in the soft mud with their long, sensitive bills. Their populations are generally stable, but they are vulnerable to habitat loss and degradation of wetland areas.
