A 2-day expedition combining two of São Paulo state's most rewarding birding experiences: the hummingbird feeders of Monte Alegre do Sul and the Tanquã wetlands - known as the "Mini Pantanal Paulista".
Day one begins at Pousada da Fazenda in Monte Alegre do Sul, where an extraordinary concentration of hummingbird feeders attracts up to 15 species simultaneously - including the dazzling Frilled Coquette (Lophornis magnificus), Festive Coquette (Lophornis chalybeus), and Black-eared Fairy (Heliothryx auritus). A paradise for photographers.
Day two starts before dawn with a boat excursion on the Tanquã wetlands near Piracicaba - a vast freshwater marshland rich in waterbirds, rails, and raptors. Targets include Jabiru, Roseate Spoonbill, Rosy-billed Pochard, and the elusive Yellow-breasted Crake. The day ends with a late-afternoon vigil for Short-eared Owl near Santa Bárbara d'Oeste.
