About this tour
This eight-day private birding route brings together several of the Ecuadorian Amazon’s most productive habitats. Time is divided among Limoncocha Lagoon, the Blanco River, Napo River islands, primary and secondary forest, and canopy viewpoints in Yasuní.
The itinerary is built around focused searches for birds such as Agami and Zigzag Herons, Cocha and Castelnau’s Antshrikes, Horned Screamer, Sungrebe, Ringed Woodpecker, Lunulated Antbird and Wire-tailed Manakin. Toucans, macaws, motmots, antpittas and island specialists add breadth, with Paspanchu and Sinchi Wayra serving as the route’s lodge bases.

Itinerary
Day 1
Coca arrival and Paspanchu forest trail
Transfer by road for about two hours from Coca to Paspanchu Lodge. After a welcome drink and orientation, begin exploring the Amazon on a guided afternoon walk along the Paspanchu Trail.
Day 2
Feeding stations and Limoncocha canoe birding
Visit the antpitta and crake feeding stations early in the morning. Later, take a canoe onto Limoncocha Lagoon to search for local specialities, including Agami Heron and Zigzag Heron.
Day 3
Blanco River specialities
Devote a full day to the Blanco River, concentrating on Cocha Antshrike and other priority birds such as Horned Screamer, Sungrebe and Ringed Woodpecker. A picnic lunch is taken in the field.
Day 4
Napo islands, clay licks and primary forest
Bird the Napo River islands in the morning, then watch parrots and parakeets at their clay licks. Continue to Sinchi Wayra Lodge and explore primary forest in the afternoon, with Lunulated Antbird and Wire-tailed Manakin among the key targets.
Day 5
Yasuní tower and Cuyabeno understory
Use the Yasuní observation tower for morning canopy birding, including chances for toucans, macaws and other treetop specialists. The afternoon follows the Cuyabeno Trail for motmots, antpittas and understory species.
Day 6
Añangu tower and Napo island endemics
Begin at the Añangu Community observation tower for another broad canopy perspective. Return to the Napo River islands later in the day to seek Castelnau’s Antshrike, Bicolored Conebill and other island-associated birds.
Day 7
Napo islands and secondary forest
Use both morning and afternoon for birding across the Napo islands and nearby secondary forest. The flexible day provides further opportunities for priority species and local endemics.
Day 8
Leaving Sinchi Wayra for Coca
Enjoy a last Amazon sunrise, then transfer from Sinchi Wayra Lodge to Coca for the onward flight.
