About this tour

Explore The Gambia from the well-known birding circuit around Kotu to Kartong, Gunjur, Tendaba and Kiang West National Park. The route combines wetlands, rice fields, creeks, coastal forest, woodland, photo hides and protected savannah, with three boat trips built into the programme.

This private itinerary can be paced for birdwatching or photography. It begins and ends on the coast, includes two nights at Tendaba and can be arranged on either a half-board or full-board basis. Exact dates, price and group size are confirmed after inquiry.

Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival in coastal Gambia

Meet at Banjul International Airport and transfer to the coastal lodge or hotel. If arrival time permits, begin with a nearby birding session.

Day 2
Kotu wetlands and creek

Explore the rice fields, sewage ponds, cycle track and golf-course area, take a one-hour creek boat trip and continue birding after lunch.

Day 3
Kartong, Alhen River and Gunjur

Visit Kartong wetland, take a one-hour boat trip on the Alhen River and continue to the Gunjur forest photo hide after lunch.

Day 4
Coast to Tendaba

Travel inland with birding stops at Farasutu, Killy Wood and the Kampanty rice fields before reaching Tendaba Camp for the night.

Day 5
Kiang West and Tendaba

Spend the day birding the Tendaba area, Kiang West National Park, the Batelling bush track and a local photography hide.

Day 6
Tendaba Creek and return to the coast

Take a three-hour morning boat trip through the Tendaba creeks, then return to the coast with selected birding stops including Bonto Forest.

Day 7
Penyem, Darsilami and Siffoe

Bird Penyem Wood, Darsilami wetland and Siffoe Wood, combining woodland, wetland and open-country habitats.

Day 8
Tanji and Brufut

Spend the morning at Tanji Bird Reserve, then continue after lunch to the woodland birding sites at Brufut.

Day 9
Departure

Transfer to the airport, with an optional final local birding session when the flight schedule allows.

What is the difference between half board and full board?

Both include guiding, transfers, route transport, boat trips, fees, water, lunches and the Tendaba stay. Full board also includes the coastal lodge and coastal dinners; those are excluded on half board.

Can the tour focus on photography?

Yes. The route includes photography hides and can be paced for bird photography as well as observation.
