7-Day Corbett National Park Birding with Nikhil Devasar
A seven-day Corbett and Kumaon birding route combining Dhikala safaris with the Himalayan foothills, Pangot and Sattal.
About this tour
This seven-day programme begins with two nights inside Corbett National Park at Dhikala Forest Rest House. Safaris cross sal forest and the Chaur grasslands, with opportunities for forest birds, raptors, elephants and other wildlife. Tiger is possible but never guaranteed.
After leaving the park, the route continues through the Corbett biosphere and Himalayan foothills before moving to Nainital. Dedicated birding around Pangot and Sattal broadens the habitat range and creates opportunities for species such as Ibisbill alongside many woodland and mountain birds.
Corbett was established in 1936 as India’s first national park. Current Uttarakhand Tourism information records more than 650 resident and migratory bird species across the wider park landscape. Dates, safari permits, transport, accommodation and price are confirmed after inquiry.

Itinerary
Day 1
Delhi to Dhikala
Leave Delhi early for the approximately six-hour road journey to Corbett; the recorded alternative is an overnight train the previous evening. Enter through Dhangari gate and begin birding en route to Dhikala. Possibilities named for this drive include Red-breasted Parakeet, Long-tailed Broadbill, Small Minivet, Collared Falconet and Grey-winged Blackbird.
After lunch at camp, take an afternoon safari in the Chaur grasslands. Red-headed Vulture, Hen Harrier, Bright-headed Cisticola, Hodgson’s Bushchat and Pallas’s Fish Eagle are among the named bird possibilities, with hog deer, barking deer and elephant also possible. Dinner and overnight are at Dhikala Forest Rest House.
Day 2
Corbett forests and grasslands
Spend a full day exploring Corbett’s forest and grassland habitats. Safaris focus on birds and wider wildlife, with another overnight stay at Dhikala Forest Rest House. Tiger may occur in this landscape, but no sighting is assured.
Day 3
Exit safari and biosphere birding
Take a final morning safari, then drive out of the national park and reach the gate during the afternoon. The seven-day version continues with birding in the surrounding biosphere, where possibilities named in the programme include fish owls, laughingthrushes, yellownapes, woodpeckers, Green Magpie, Ibisbill, Brown Dipper and Spotted Forktail.
Day 4
Himalayan foothills
Explore birding sites in the Himalayan foothills and stay overnight at a resort outside Corbett National Park.
Day 5
Nainital and Pangot
Move to Nainital and spend time birding in the Pangot area for Himalayan species. Overnight at a hotel in Nainital.
Day 6
Sattal birding
Explore the Sattal region and its varied hill and woodland birdlife. Return to the Nainital hotel for the night.
Day 7
Return to Delhi
Leave the Kumaon hills and travel back to Delhi.

How can travellers reach Corbett?
The programme records an early road departure from Delhi, taking about six hours, or an overnight train the previous evening. Final transport and meeting arrangements are confirmed after inquiry.
Where are the first two nights spent?
The first two nights are inside Corbett at Dhikala Forest Rest House. Later nights are outside Corbett and in Nainital as described in the itinerary.
Are tiger and target-bird sightings guaranteed?
No. The route is designed for birding and wider wildlife observation, but tiger, elephants and every named bird remain subject to habitat, season and local conditions.
