About this tour
Use Almodovar as a six-night base for a flexible week combining three guided 4x4 birding days with two independent exploration days. The first guided sessions focus on the Alentejo grassland steppes, where Great Bustard, Little Bustard and Spanish Imperial Eagle are central priorities.
A seasonal night outing adds the possibility of Red-necked Nightjar. The third guided day is shaped around participant interests and current conditions; it may stay inland for additional raptors and steppe birds or travel toward Algarve marshes and the coast for waterbirds. Any cultural or winery element is optional rather than guaranteed.
Breakfast and accommodation are included throughout the stay. The two self-driving days can be supported with suggested birding locations, while guests retain control of their own transport and schedule. Other meals, long-distance transfers, flights, tips, insurance and personal equipment are excluded. The exact route remains responsive to weather, access and seasonal bird activity.

Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival and tour planning
Arrive in Almodovar and join an evening briefing at the Birding Center. Review seasonal conditions and priorities for the three guided field days.
Day 2
First Alentejo steppe day
Begin with an early or packed breakfast, then spend a full guided day crossing steppe habitats by 4x4. The route emphasizes bustards, Spanish Imperial Eagle and other open-country birds.
Day 3
Second steppe day and night birding
Continue across the grassland landscape for targets missed on the first day and seasonal specialties. When conditions allow, add a night excursion for Red-necked Nightjar after the evening briefing.
Day 4
Flexible guided birding day
Choose the strongest route for current birds and participant interests. The day may cover additional inland habitats or extend to Algarve coastal marshes for waterbirds; optional cultural stops depend on the agreed plan.
Day 5
Independent birding day
Explore independently with suggested sites provided by the operator. Accommodation and breakfast remain included, while transport and the daily route are self-managed.
Day 6
Second independent day
Use a second flexible day for self-driving birding, photography or revisiting a preferred area around Almodovar and the wider region.
Day 7
Departure
Have breakfast and depart after the six-night stay.
