About this tour

This Southern Tanzania itinerary moves from the Indian Ocean coast through savanna, miombo woodland, Eastern Arc forest and major river wetlands. Dar es Salaam and Saadani lead into Mikumi and Ruaha, followed by Udzungwa Mountains, Kilombero floodplain and Nyerere National Park.

The route combines beach and pelagic birding, game drives, forest hikes, a dugout-canoe wetland session and Rufiji River boat birding. Coastal terns, miombo specialists, Ruaha birds, Eastern Arc endemics and Kilombero specialties are central to the program, with large mammals adding a wider safari element.

Long drives, rough roads, heat, humidity and tsetse flies occur on parts of the circuit. Early departures are used on travel days, and the exact timing between stages depends on roads, weather and current park access. July to November is identified as the preferred travel period.
