Common Hoopoe

Common Hoopoe, Upupa epops, is a widespread breeder across the Palearctic, Africa and the Oriental Region. It was first described by Linnaeus in 1758 and belongs to the family Upupidae in the order Bucerotiformes. The bird is found across Europe, Asia and Africa, and northern populations move seasonally. It is a very distinctive species, with a tall crest, a long downcurved bill, black and white wings, and a broad white band on the black tail. Its usual call is a soft oop-oop-oop.
