Stilt Sandpiper

Calidris himantopus

The Stilt Sandpiper is a medium-sized shorebird with a long, slightly decurved bill and long greenish legs. During breeding season, it displays a mottled brown and white plumage on its upperparts, and a white underbelly. In non-breeding plumage, it appears mostly gray with a white belly. This species is known for its distinctive feeding behavior, often seen wading in shallow water and probing the mud for invertebrates with its long bill. Stilt Sandpipers breed in the Arctic tundra and migrate to South America for the winter. They are often found in freshwater and brackish wetlands during migration.
