About this tour
Spend a full day in the Nikko highlands, where Senjogahara moor and surrounding oak forest create one of the most rewarding birding landscapes within reach of Tokyo. The route is shaped around the season, weather and current bird activity.
Spring and summer can bring Narcissus Flycatcher, Siberian Blue Robin, Chestnut-eared Bunting and Siberian Stonechat. Autumn changes both the landscape and the bird community, with finches, thrushes and mixed flocks moving through the forest and open moor.
Yamadori Factory provides English-language guiding and transport between the confirmed accommodation or station and the birding area. The outing is limited to six participants and can be arranged privately through BirdWatch.

Day 1
Nikko highland birding
Travel from the confirmed pickup point to Senjogahara and nearby forest sites. Spend the day watching and listening for seasonal mountain and woodland birds, with the route adjusted to conditions before the return transfer.
