About this tour
Two days allow Mohamed Oubadi to combine the best-known habitats near Merzouga with quieter tracks and more remote areas around Erg Chebbi. Both mornings begin around sunrise, when desert activity and photography light are often at their best, and the private 4x4 makes it possible to respond to water, road and bird conditions.
Day one normally starts near seasonal lakes or other water points, where Spotted and Crowned Sandgrouse may arrive to drink. The route can then move through dunes, dry riverbeds, palm groves, rocky ground and open plains for Desert Sparrow, Greater Hoopoe-Lark, Cream-colored Courser, African Desert Warbler and wheatears. A Berber-style picnic under an acacia provides a midday break before further afternoon birding.
On the second morning, Mohamed uses the first day’s results to decide which deeper desert tracks, remote plains, small farms or wadis deserve priority. This creates more time for missed species and photography, including possible searches for Egyptian Nightjar, Fulvous Babbler, Tristram’s Warbler, sandgrouse, Kestrel or Barbary Falcon. The programme remains flexible because access, weather and wild activity change.
The published two-day package includes private local guiding, 4x4 transport, Merzouga hotel or camp pickup and drop-off, picnic lunch on both field days and Merzouga accommodation whose property and room basis are confirmed in the proposal. Personal expenses, insurance, optional tips and unlisted services are excluded. Price, group size and fixed dates remain on request; no species is guaranteed.
