Huacarpay Wetlands Birdwatching - Half Day
An early half-day visit to the Huacarpay Wetlands, 30 km south of Cusco. Three hours across several lagoon viewpoints provide chances for resident Andean waterbirds, seasonal migrants and nearby highland endemics.
About this tour
Huacarpay’s Andean lagoons offer a varied wetland session within reach of Cusco. Ducks, grebes, ibis, rushbirds and other water-associated species share the landscape with hummingbirds and birds of the surrounding dry highlands.
The guide uses several observation points during a three-hour circuit. Many-colored Rush Tyrant, Puna Ibis, Andean Duck, White-tufted Grebe and Puna Teal are highlighted alongside Rusty-fronted Canastero and Bearded Mountaineer.
Resident species can be present year-round, while the migrant mix changes by season. The outing is easy to moderate, with short walks and an early hotel pickup.

Day 1
Huacarpay Wetlands Birding Circuit
Pickup from the Cusco hotel is at 5:30 am. Drive 30 km south to Huacarpay and spend the next three hours moving among selected viewpoints around the wetlands. The search covers resident waterbirds and seasonal visitors, with particular attention to Rusty-fronted Canastero and Bearded Mountaineer in suitable nearby habitat. Return to Cusco after the birding circuit.
