Arrive in Mahmudia for an evening at Bunica Maria before a full boat-birding day. This two-day visit includes one night at the family-run guesthouse, traditional meals and an English-speaking local guide.
After settling in, explore the village or Danube shore at your own pace. An evening discussion introduces the following day’s outing and boat safety. The main birding excursion begins after breakfast and lasts about six hours, with lunch back at the guesthouse before departure.
Reed-lined channels, lakes and restored wetland provide opportunities for pelicans, cormorants, egrets and kingfishers. The programme also draws attention to the Carasuhat conservation area. Keep an eye out for White-tailed Eagles overhead; all wildlife encounters depend on the conditions.

Day 1
Settle into Mahmudia
Check in at the guesthouse and take time to relax or walk through the village towards the Danube. Dinner is followed by a conversation about the coming boat excursion and safety on the water.
Day 2
Boat birding before departure
After breakfast, walk about five minutes to the boat for six hours of birdwatching. Watch for pelicans, herons, Glossy Ibises and kingfishers as the guide explores the Delta waterways. Return for a traditional fish lunch, then leave after a short rest.
