Three-Day Danube Delta Birdwatching with Bunica Maria

About this tour
With arrival and departure on separate days, this three-day break leaves the middle day for exploring the Delta by boat. Stay for two nights with Bunica Maria in Mahmudia, where local fish dishes and other home-cooked meals accompany the birding programme.
A six-hour excursion with an English-speaking guide follows the waterways used by pelicans, herons, egrets and kingfishers. The small-group format carries up to six participants, with a gentle pace for watching and photographing the birds encountered.
After lunch back at the guesthouse, the programme recommends a walk in the Bestepe Hill reserve. Its steppe meadows and views over the Delta add a land-based perspective to the day on the water. This is an optional outing; the guided boat trip remains the core birding activity.

Day 1
Guesthouse arrival and river-shore stroll
Make yourself comfortable at Bunica Maria and spend the remaining time in the village or beside the Danube. After dinner, discuss the next day’s plans and the practical points of travelling by boat.
Day 2
Six hours of wetland birding
Walk from the guesthouse to the mooring after an early breakfast. During the roughly six-hour boat trip, look for pelicans, White-tailed Eagles, herons, egrets and Glossy Ibises. A fish lunch and rest follow the return; later, an optional walk at Bestepe Hill offers steppe scenery and broad views of the Delta.
Day 3
Breakfast and farewell
Enjoy breakfast at the guesthouse before departure. The morning brings the two-night stay to a close without an additional scheduled boat excursion.
