About this tour
Leave central London by train and meet a Wildstarts guide at either Gatwick Airport or Ashford International. From there, private road transport opens access to productive birding areas across Sussex, Kent, Surrey or Hampshire without spending the day in London traffic.
The route is chosen around the season, weather, current bird activity and the group’s priorities. Depending on conditions, the day may combine wetlands, woodland, heath, farmland or coastal sites. Possible highlights across these habitats include Barn Owl, Hen Harrier, Bearded Reedling, Firecrest, Dartford Warbler and Lesser Spotted Woodpecker, but wildlife sightings cannot be guaranteed.
The standard private program runs for ten hours, normally from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM. It includes station pickup and return, an expert birding guide, use of a spotting scope, entry to RSPB and local nature reserves, and a detailed eBird trip report after the outing. An extended dawn-to-evening version is also available on request.
