The Eurasian Coot, also known simply as the Coot, is a medium-sized waterbird found across Europe, Asia, and parts of North Africa. It has a distinctive black body, white bill, and a prominent white frontal shield above the bill. The Coot is known for its aggressive behavior during the breeding season, often engaging in territorial disputes and nest destruction. It is a proficient swimmer and diver, feeding on aquatic plants, insects, and small fish. The Coot prefers freshwater habitats such as lakes, ponds, and marshes, and can also be found in coastal lagoons and estuaries. Despite facing some threats such as habitat loss and pollution, the Eurasian Coot is considered a species of Least Concern by the IUCN.
