Bird Photography in Spring in Bulgaria with NatureTravel
Use specialist hides over six full-board days in North-East Bulgaria for spring photography of orioles, rollers, bee-eaters, woodpeckers and more.
About this tour
This six-day, five-night photography trip is based near Ognyanovo in the Suha Reka area of North-East Bulgaria. May and June bring long light, active breeding territories and a changing selection of spring birds. The programme is designed for three to six photographers, with Sergey Panayotov coordinating hide use around conditions and current activity.
Several hide types create different angles and subjects. A raised tower can place cameras level with Golden Orioles and woodland visitors, while dedicated positions cover European Rollers and Bee-eater colonies. Forest and mobile hides broaden the search to woodpeckers, buntings, shrikes, larks and other birds using old trees, cliffs, fields and village edges.
The schedule follows light rather than a conventional sightseeing timetable. Early mornings and late afternoons are normally the strongest sessions; midday can be used for rest when light is harsh. Depending on conditions, the group may also photograph sousliks, butterflies, flowers, landscapes or other wildlife, but bird activity and photographic results are never guaranteed.
The confirmed rate is EUR 1,520 per person for the published full-board programme. Single-room accommodation, all meals, guiding, local transport, hide use and return transfer from Varna Airport are included. Alcoholic drinks and personal insurance are excluded. Availability, flight timing and any additional service are reconfirmed after inquiry.

Itinerary ▼
Meet for the transfer from Varna Airport to the Ognyanovo and Suha Reka base. Settle into the single-room accommodation, review hide etiquette and camera needs, and plan the first sessions around arrival time, light and current activity.
Use the raised tower during early light for Golden Oriole and other birds visiting the established tree, then rotate through woodland positions as conditions suit. Possible subjects include Eurasian Wryneck, several woodpeckers, buntings and common garden or forest-edge birds. Midday is available for rest before a later session.
Spend the middle part of the trip around European Roller and Bee-eater colonies during the most useful morning and afternoon light. Forest or mobile hides can be added for shrikes, larks, Hoopoe, Little Owl, sousliks or seasonal macro and landscape work, with the exact balance chosen daily.
Use the remaining time for a final nearby hide or photography session when the flight schedule allows. Return to Varna Airport by the included transfer, with departure timing confirmed in the final arrangements.
