Great Sand Hills Birdwatching Tour from Saskatoon, Kindersley or Leader – 3 new options
A private two- or three-day self-drive birding tour through the Great Sand Hills, South Saskatchewan River valley and, on the longer option, Saskatchewan Landing.
About this tour
Explore the Great Sand Hills and surrounding prairie in southwestern Saskatchewan, using river valleys, dune country, parkland and open grassland to search for the region's distinctive birds. Long-billed Curlew, Common Poorwill, shrikes, bluebirds and prairie sparrows are among the possibilities, but none is guaranteed.
The two-day private route visits the Great Sand Hills and sites along the South Saskatchewan River. The three-day private option continues to Saskatchewan Landing Provincial Park and may include an optional coulee walk, adding another mix of grassland, shrub and riverside habitat.
Both formats are guided self-drive tours, with participants using their own car or truck. Most birding is from roadside stops, although optional sand-dune and river-edge walks make the overall difficulty easy to moderate. Accommodation, meals and transportation are not included in the guiding fees.
