About this tour
This private North India birding journey begins in Delhi and crosses a broad range of habitats before climbing into the western Himalayan foothills. The 16-day route combines the dry forests and lakes of Ranthambore, the celebrated wetlands of Keoladeo at Bharatpur, the river and sal forest landscapes of Corbett, and the wooded ridges around Kotabagh and Nainital.
Early stages balance birding with wider wildlife and cultural experiences. Train journeys connect Delhi with Ranthambore and Bharatpur, where open-vehicle excursions and cycle-rickshaw birding create different ways to explore. Keoladeo is the principal wetland stop, with time for waterbirds, herons, storks, raptors and woodland species. A day in Agra adds Fatehpur Sikri, Agra Fort and the Taj Mahal before the route turns north toward Uttarakhand.
Around Corbett, birding follows the Kosi and Ramganga river systems and reaches grassland and forest in the Dhikala zone, subject to current access and permits. The elevation then rises through Kotabagh to Nainital. River birds, hornbills, woodpeckers, owls, forktails and birds of prey are among the possibilities across these stages, while the higher ridges may add laughingthrushes, rosefinches, accentors and other Himalayan species.

Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival in Delhi
Meet on arrival in Delhi and transfer to the hotel. The rest of the day is free before the north India circuit begins.
Day 2
Train to Ranthambore
Travel by train from Delhi to Sawai Madhopur. After arrival and lunch, take the first open-vehicle excursion in Ranthambore, with birds and wider wildlife both part of the field experience.
Day 3
Ranthambore forest and lakes
Explore Ranthambore’s dry forest, ravines and water bodies. The outing focuses on birds of woodland and open country while retaining the possibility of larger wildlife.
Day 4
Two Ranthambore excursions
Use morning and afternoon excursions to cover different park zones and activity periods. Sandgrouse, Indian Courser and raptors are among the possible birding interests.
Day 5
Train to Bharatpur and first wetland session
Travel by train to Bharatpur and settle into the hotel. In the afternoon, begin exploring Keoladeo National Park by cycle rickshaw with local natural-history support.
Day 6
Full day in Keoladeo
Spend a full day among Keoladeo’s shallow lakes, heronries, grassland and mixed woodland. The varied habitat supports resident and migratory waterbirds as well as raptors and terrestrial species.
Day 7
Fatehpur Sikri and Agra
Leave Bharatpur for Agra, stopping at Fatehpur Sikri on the way. The afternoon includes Agra Fort and the Taj Mahal before an overnight stay in Agra.
Day 8
Road transfer to Corbett
Drive north through the plains toward the Corbett landscape in the Himalayan foothills. Arrive in the late afternoon and settle into the resort.
Day 9
Kosi River birding
Devote the day to birding around the Kosi River and nearby forest. Dippers, kingfishers, forktails, raptors and mixed forest birds are among the possibilities.
Day 10
Into the Dhikala zone
Enter Corbett’s core area and continue toward Dhikala, subject to current permits and access. Grassland, river and forest provide a broad mix of bird and mammal habitat.
Day 11
Dhikala and Ramganga
Spend a full day birding around Dhikala and the Ramganga reservoir. The area can support owls, hornbills, grassland birds and a diverse assemblage of birds of prey.
Day 12
Corbett to Kotabagh
Leave Dhikala for Kotabagh, a valley bordered by sal forest and wooded hills. Begin exploring local birding sites for raptors and forest species.
Day 13
Kotabagh birding
Continue birding around Kotabagh and the nearby forest belt. The day allows time for different viewpoints, woodland edges and searches for hawks, falcons and other local birds.
Day 14
Kotabagh to Nainital
Drive into the hills toward Nainital, stopping along the mountain road where conditions allow. Changing elevation brings new forest birds and Himalayan scenery.
Day 15
Nainital ridge birding
Explore the ridge above Nainital and walk through high-elevation woodland. Laughingthrushes, rosefinches, accentors, nuthatches, bush-robins and soaring Himalayan raptors are among the possibilities.
Day 16
Return to Delhi
Drive back to Delhi with roadside stops only when timing permits. Transfer to the hotel or airport according to the confirmed onward schedule.
