About this tour
This expanded private route adds two full birding days east of Tokyo before continuing to the Izu Islands. Lake and agricultural habitat around Chiba and Ibaraki can produce winter waterfowl or warmer-season passerines, while Choshi’s harbour and rocky shore provide a contrasting coastal watch.
The middle of the journey connects Sanbanze and Mizumoto Park before boarding the overnight ferry to Miyake. A full island day and a second morning then focus on forest, coast and local specialties; both ferry crossings can also yield seabirds.
The published price starts at USD 5,610 per person for a minimum of two sharing. Itinerary
Day 1
Arrival in Narita
Meet the driver at Narita or Haneda Airport and transfer privately to the Narita-area hotel. The balance of the day is free.
Day 2
Lake and wetland birding
Travel by private vehicle with the birding guide to lake, field and wetland sites selected for the season, then return to Narita.
Day 3
Choshi coast and Ibaraki pond
Search Choshi’s harbour and rocky shore for gulls, herons and other coastal birds, then continue to Go-no-ike Pond for seasonal ducks and additional wetland species.
Day 4
Sanbanze, Mizumoto Park and overnight ferry
Bird the Sanbanze tidal flats and Mizumoto Park before transferring to Takeshiba Ferry Port for the overnight sailing to Miyake Island.
Day 5
Full-day Miyake Island birding
Explore island forest, coast and quieter roads with the specialist guide, adjusting stops to local bird activity and weather.
Day 6
Miyake birding and return ferry
Continue birding around Miyake in the morning, then watch for pelagic species during the ferry journey back to Tokyo and check in after arrival.
Day 7
Departure from Tokyo
After breakfast, use the remaining free time before the included transfer to Narita or Haneda Airport.
